How the numbers are calculated

Your spending profile times each card's earn rates, converted to dollars through published point valuations, minus fees and plus credits. That is the whole model, and it is the same one the API uses to build the rankings.

  • First-year and ongoing value are listed separately, so a big welcome bonus can't carry a card that costs you money after year one.
  • Every card shows its rewards, bonus, credits, fees, and Chexy bill-payment costs as separate line items that add up to the total.
  • Some apply links pay us a commission. They are not an input to the ranking.

Rank order depends on you
The same card can come first for a frequent traveller and fortieth for someone who mostly buys groceries and pays bills.
Data gets stale
Issuers change offers without warning. Each card carries a last-verified date, and the rankings page shows the most recent one across the catalog.
